FUNdamentals

Training Course

Wooden Alphabet Letters

Goals of ESL Fundamentals Training

• To prepare a core of 2-4 staff members for building an excellent English environment in the Kindergarten and ABCs Learning Centers of your school
• To demonstrate methods for building the English proficiency of school staff members
• To build the confidence and communication skills of each participant
• To send each participant away with the tools to communicate with students who have no English knowledge, especially during the first two weeks of school
• To give each participant experience working with colleagues and conducting classroom activities using only English

The Kindergarten Track breaks down the Kindergarten with Ace and Christi manuals into manageable segments and shows how the principles taught in Procedures Manual II can be applied to kindergarten Learning Centers with different ages of children and schedules. Step by step guidelines are given for adapting the activities for ESL students. The training will also include techniques for using play to teach English, class control methods, and Learning Center evaluation techniques.

The ABCs Track covers the ABCs with Ace and Christi for English Learners Manual. It includes techniques for teaching phonics, reading, and writing to ESL students. It discusses English language assimilation through play and covers motivation techniques for young students in the Learning Center. The ESL procedures of the Learning Center and transitioning students into the individual program are discussed in detail.

Both tracks include hands-on workshops in storytelling, song and activity leading, and ESL games for building vocabulary.
